OCTOBER 2004 - WHITE ROCK LAKE - DALLAS, TEXAS

WHITE ROCK LAKE CHAMPIONSHIP AND PAST COMMODORES DINNER

Can you believe that we held both of these outstanding
events on the same day in September? Were you one of the lucky ones
to attend the Past Commodores Celebration? We have been blessed with
some of the finest people possible serving as our Commodore and Diane
and Bob VanBuren provided a great dinner in tribute to these CSC leaders.
Thank you, Past Commodores for your service!

This was very successful, with lovely weather and a good
turnout. We had several past Commodores with us, enjoying the evening.
Chef Jerry spoiled us with delectable hors doeuvres while
we enjoyed the breeze outside and the mandolin music, treating us to
17th century Italian music. Even better than the delicious food and
sweet music was the company we shared and the
stories recounted by some of the earlier commodores, including Willis
          McQueen and others.

A memorable evening, and a reminder of the remarkable,
continuous positive spirit that is evident
in all service given by so many that keeps our club thriving!

Table decorations included petunia and mum plants. If
you like. you may volunteer to plant these in the garden along the shore
to brighten the cooler months ahead.

The Lake Championship was held on the same Saturday with
pretty good wind except that it kept changing speed and direction. Oh
well! All who sail on White Rock are familiar with this condition. John
Diggins and his committee did a masterful job of getting all six races
in before cocktail time at the dinner.

The six qualifying race teams sailed on each of the six
Corinthian Classic Sailboats with the combined scores determining the
winner. The races were fun to watch because these experienced sailors
were together at the starting line and, although on different tacks
during each of the legs, were very close again at the finish line.

        Someone has to win!

Richard Wade and Jennifer Judkins in first place
David Barrett and Bill Wilson came in second
Scott Mauney and Natalie Mauney placed third
George Szaboky and Ken Brown rallied for fourth
Mac McCoy and Alan Caldwell pulled in a fifth
Tommy Miller and Scot Stolley supported the field

Hail to the Champs! And to all who participated in the
          preliminaries.

        WEATHER STATION ENHANCEMENT POLL

Funny thing happened on the way to the poll! Hardly anyone
has an opinion on whether or not to build in the enhancements to the
system that will allow you to view weather at the club while you are
at home staring at your computer. Would this capability determine if
you are going to the lake or have you made up your mind that your going
regardless of the weather. After all the weather is likely to change
before you get there anyway! Let Frank Richards or Richard Wade know
what you think or respond to the website (www.cscsailing.org/wx3.html.).

        YOUR BOARD REQUESTS

All fleets should make your recommendations for the people
whom you think deserve to be recipients of the Norm Watkins trophy,
the Carol Gough trophy and the Bill Leonard trophy. Please get your
entries in to any board member as soon as possible and no later than
          October 23rd.

Also we need to have your recommendation for the 2005
Board. There are many well qualified sailors among all of the fleets
who would enjoy serving on the Board and working toward the betterment
of CSC. Let current members of the Board know who you think are good
          nominees for 2005.

        JUNIORS PROGRAM

Seabrook SSC Endless Summer TSA Junior Regatta:
Paul Denison finished 2nd at the Seabrook Sailing Club's Endless Summer
TSA Junior Circuit Regatta held during the weekend of October 2-3.

'Ol Man of the Sea Junior Regatta. Six CSC junior
skippers ventured to Fort Worth Boat Club the weekend of September 11-12
for the annual 'Ol Man of the Sea Junior Regatta. Our Optimist Green
Fleeters of Zander LeBel, Aaron Comen, Caroline Pittet, and Robinson
Pittet were all recognized at the awards ceremony for their consistent
finishes. Masie Comen also continues to improve in the Optimist Blue
Fleet. In the Laser Radial Class Paul Denison finished 3rd overall and
continues to hold on to his first place ranking on the TSA Junior Radial
Laser Circuit standings with only two more regattas to go in the season.
Cressy Trophy Elimination Regatta. Paul Denison
also competed on September 18-19 at Houston Yacht Club in the Cressy
Trophy Elimination Regatta. This regatta determined the Southeastern
District's representative to the Interscholastic Sailing Association's
Cressy Trophy Finals in Minnesota. The Cressy Trophy is Highschool Sailing's
singlehanded national championship. Representing Booker T. Washington
HS for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Paul finished 3rd overall
against a tough field of full rig Laser sailors from high school sailing
teams from Texas to the Florida panhandle.
Sunday Junior Open Sailing. We continue to have
a good showing each Sunday afternoon for junior open sailing. Arrive
to rig about 1:00pm. But for the program to continue more parent volunteers
are needed to cover rescue boat duty. We have no one scheduled for this
Sunday, September 25 to fill either the experienced or apprentice slot
and no experienced volunteers to cover the duty on October 10th or on
any of the following Sundays. Please let Sandy Denison know if you are
will sign up to fill one of these slots. The continued success of the
          program depends on parental support.
