Leukemia Cup Regatta

2008 is a Record Year

I just wanted to say thank you to each and every one of you who helped to make this year's Leukemia Cup Regatta such a huge success!  To date, we have $153,000 that was raised over both the CSC and DCYC weekends!  It truly is the best year for the event in the history of North Texas.

THE LEUKEMIA CUP REGATTA

By participating in The Leukemia Cup Regatta as a skipper, club member, crew member or spectator, you are making a commitment to help The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of North Texas in its fight to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Regatta participants raised over $650,000 the last six years. You are truly making a difference in the lives of many now and well into the future, and we thank you for your support.

Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club on Lewisville Lake hosted the first North Texas Leukemia Cup Regatta in 2002 and broke the mold with achieving status of the highest grossing first year regatta in this national event’s history. That was only the beginning. In 2003, a Poker Run was added to include the power boating community and in 2004, a regatta for centerboard boats was added at Corinthian Sailing Club on White Rock Lake. The planning for 2008 is underway and we need your help to make this an event of a lifetime for all involved.

We look forward to seeing you at the 2008 Leukemia Cup Regatta

  • Centerboard Boats – April 25 - 27 at Corinthian Sailing Club,

YOUR DOLLARS AT WORK

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a national voluntary health agency dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improving the quality of life of patients and their families. The Society is a non profit organization that relies on the generosity of individual and corporate contributions to advance its mission.

The Society invests $37.6 million annually in support of more than 400 researchers and projects in 15 countries, including 4 researchers at UT Southwestern in Dallas. Society funded research has led to key advances in understanding blood cancer and the lifesaving drugs and treatments to fight them. Innovations in cancer treatment over the years have included radiation and chemotherapy, as well as, stem cell transplantation. More recently, funding from the Society was used by Dr. Brian Druker in research that lead to the development of Gleevec, a new targeted therapy that kills cancer cells without harming normal ones.

The Society is also the leading resource for patients with these diseases and their families, providing information and services through our Information Resource Center, our Web site, and our 68 chapters across the country. For patients and their families, the Society offers financial assistance, education programs for patients and professionals, family support groups, and peer counseling. This year $115,000 will be distributed in financial aid in North Texas and family support groups at five locations continue throughout the year.

The dedication of time, talents and resources of our volunteers and fundraisers make the above possible. Thank you.
